Chely Wright expecting twins with Lauren Blitzer: We're excited to be parents
Country music singer Chely Wright and wife Lauren Blitzer are expanding their family.
Wright, 42, is expecting twins with wife Blitzer, 31, the pair announced on Howard Bragman's YouTube show, "Gwissues."
"Before we finish, is there anything else we should know about?" Bragman asked the pair.
"Well, we have this small thing going on," Blitzer said. "A couple of things, in fact," Wright interjected.
"Howard, we wanted to share with you first," Wright said. "We wanted to let you know that we are expecting, we are pregnant ... identical twins. They're due in July, but with identical twins, you typically have to do it about a month early. So, we are expecting that I will be as big as a bus, or an A-frame house, by around June."
The country singer married Blitzer in August 2011 at the home of Blitzer's aunt. Both brides wore white wedding gowns, and both a reverend and a rabbi presided over the ceremony as Wright is Christian, and Blitzer is Jewish.
While the pair couldn't contain their excitement in the video, Wright, who is carrying the child, admitted that her first trimester wasn't all smooth sailing.
"Howard I will tell you, there's so much - the first trimester was really tough, I had morning sickness in the evening, I had it every evening," Wright continued. "There's a lot that the body goes through, and I'm showing now - and it's just now sinking in that I'm pregnant."
"When gay couples have babies, it's logistically a little different than when straight people have babies, as we all know," Wright continued. "It's been an [amazing] experience."
The couple announced their engagement in April 2011, almost a year after Wright came out of the closet.
"We're excited to be parents," Wright added. "We hope we don't mess it up too badly."
The two met through their youth advocacy work, and Wright has said in media interviews that she grew up in a community in the South where homosexuality was shunned and that she hid her sexuality for the sake of her music.
Wright released her new album, "Lifted Off the Ground," in May 2010, after she came out. The singer said in January 2011 that her country music career has suffered and that her life has been threatened since she came out publicly.
