Chelsea Handler confirms she was dating rapper 50 Cent, 'very casually'
After dodging rumors since November, Chelsea Handler has finally admitted to Piers Morgan that she dated rapper 50 Cent, "very casually."
The rapper and the host of E! talk show "Chelsea Lately", were photographed looking cozy at a New Orleans bar back in November and famously fueled the rumors on the social networking site, Twitter, posting racy photos and vague allusions to the relationship.
"He's a very sweet, nice guy," Handler said of the 35-year-old rapper on "Piers Morgan Tonight" on Tuesday. "I was sampling, kind of, the atmosphere, seeing what was out there, and I was satiated."
Handler, 36, admit that while she enjoyed Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson, she wasn't interested in the lavish gifts, which she often sent back to the rapper.
"I don't really like when men buy me ridiculous gifts, especially when I don't know them well," Handler said. "I can buy my own gifts. I really don't like gifts from rappers in general, since I'm not a hooker."
Though the two never admit to seeing each other, they were open about spending time together on Twitter.
"Everyone, calm down," the comedienne Tweet last October. "I met with Mr. Cent about a potential project. There's nothing to report yet, I'll let you know if there is."
In November, Handler once Tweeted a photo of the two in bed, with their arms around each other, and Handler's Tweet read, "I don't know why anyone thinks I would ever date a rapper."
Chelsea Handler denied being involved with 50 Cent intimately but said she was "open" to the idea, even posting a photo of two dolls in a sexual position on her Twitter account.
Handler is currently promoting her fourth book, "Lies That Chelsea Handler Told Me" which is a compilation of stories written by her "victims" about the notorious prankster's various "lies."
"Lies" follows Handler's other best-selling books, "My Horizontal Life: A Collection of One-Night Stands," "Are You There Vodka? It's Me Chelsea" and "Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang." Last year, Handler's first three books occupied the top three positions on the New York Times best-seller list for a period of time.
Handler began her career as a comedian, appearing regularly on the series "Girls Behaving Badly." In 2007, E! picked up "Chelsea Lately," which has averaged over half a million viewers since its premiere. Her spin-off show, "After Lately," which shows the cast of comedians and writers behind the scenes, was recently renewed for a second season.
In January, Handler was first linked to her current boyfriend, hotelier Andre Balazs, after the two were seen dancing and holding hands at the Sundance Film Festival. Balazs hosted the launch party for Handler's new book at the Standard hotel in New York City.
Previously Handler dated Ted Harbert, who was made chairman of NBC Broadcasting following the company's ongoing merger with Comcast. The company owns E! Entertainment Television, which the 55-year-old had managed as CEO. The two ended their four-year relationship earlier last year.
Perhaps Handler's sense of humor rubbed off on 50 Cent, as he recently launched a comedy website, ThisIs50Comedy.com. There are hints at his humor in music videos like "Candy Shop" and "In Da Club," but it is unknown whether the rapper will star in his own comedy sketches.
"Chelsea Lately" airs Monday through Friday at 11 p.m. while "After Lately" airs Sundays at 11 p.m. on E!
