Charlie Sheen's "Anger Management" broke major ratings records, with its debut on Thursday, June 28.

The FX comedy series was named the most-watched scripted comedy primetime premiere in cable history, drawing 2.65 million adults between the ages of 18-49 and 5.47 total viewers. It also became the most-watched series premiere in FX history, the network announced.

The network followed the series premiere of "Anger Management" with the second episode, which garnered 5.74 million total viewers, including 2.89 million adults in the target demo.

Sheen thanked fans on Twitter for tuning in to the record-breaking premiere. The actor watched the premiere with his cast and crew and Tweeted on June 28, "Thanks Bruce Helford, best showrunner on the planet! Awesome viewing party! Love watching w/ writers, cast & producers!"

If "Anger Management" continues to succeed, it will receive a 90 episode order, to be produced over the next two years. Sheen recently told the New York Times that the series would be his "swan song."

"When I'm done with this business it's just going to be about soccer games and amusement parks," the 46-year-old actor, who has five children, told The New York Times in a recent interview. "And when this ends, I'm done. This is my swan song."

Thursday also saw the season two premiere of "Wilfred" and the season three premiere of "Louie," which earned 2.53 total viewers (1.5 million adults) and 1.43 million total viewers (911,000 adults), respectively. Both were significant improvements over the shows' previous season premieres.

The series premiere of "Russell Brand's Brand X" at the 11 p.m. time slot earned FX 1.1 million total viewers (687,000 adults). The stand-up comedy series features English comedian Russell Brand and includes stand-up and audience participation.

"Anger Management" is loosely based on the 2003 comedy film and premieres on June 28. Sheen's character on "Two and a Half Men" was killed off and given a funeral. He poked fun at it in a promotional video for "Anger Management."

Sheen has battled substance abuse for years. He was famously fired from the CBS comedy series "Two and a Half Men" in 2011 after months of personal turmoil, including a rehab stint that had delayed production, and a slew of erratic, on-air rants against series co-creator, Chuck Lorre.

Sheen was honored with his own Comedy Central Roast after his meltdown and maintains a sense of humor with it comes to his vices and past legal problems. He was pokes fun at himself in commercials, including a Fiat ad that shows him driving straight into a house and telling party guests, while cozying up to a model, "I love being under house arrest. What do I get for good behavior?"

During his time on "Two and a Half Men," Sheen was the top-paid television actor in 2010, commanding a reported $1.25 million per episode, which broke a Guinness World Record.

After his firing, he sued show co-creator Lorre and production company, Warner Brothers Television, for $100 million and walked away with a settlement.

"Anger Management" airs on Thursdays at 9:30 p.m. ET on FX. Watch a promo below.
