Charlie Sheen utters homophobic slur on video, issues apology
Charlie Sheen has recently gotten himself into some hot water.
The actor, 47, was recently caught on video using a homophobic slur while hosting the grand opening of a new rooftop bar in Mexico, according to the Los Angeles Times.
"How we doing?" Sheen says to the crowd in the video. "Lying bunch of (expletive) ... how we doing?"
The video, which was posted on December 30, can be viewed on TMZ's website.
The former "Two and Half Men" actor made his comments while hosting the grand opening event of the "Epic Bar," where he presented musical acts on the rooftop of the four-story El Ganzo hotel in San Jose del Cabo, near Cabo San Lucas. The actor also promoted the event on his official Twitter account.
"30 minutes to blast off..! This is gonna be an EPIC NIGHT!!," he Tweeted on December 28.
The flier that the actor Tweeted featured details about the occasion, and dubbed the event an "epic grand opening" that featured a performance from former Guns n' Roses guitarist Slash, as well as an appearance from Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.
"From Boyle Heights 2 Mayor of LA..! .... Antonio Villaraigosa knows how to party!" Sheen Tweeted, with a corresponding photo of the actor with his arm around the mayor. The photo has since been deleted, but can be viewed in a screen capture on TMZ's website.
According to the entertainment website, Sheen issued the following apology.
"I meant no ill will and intended to hurt no one and I apologize if I offended anyone," Sheen said, according to TMZ. "I meant to say maggot, but I have a lisp."
Sheen is no stranger to being criticized for his remarks, having been fired from his long-time gig on "Two and a Half Men" in 2011 due to his rants against the CBS comedy show's co-creator, Chuck Lorre, and his outlandish on-air ramblings.
More recently, Sheen has been starring in his own FX series, "Anger Management," which was recently announced to have been renewed for 90 episodes by the television network.
"Anger Management" debuted on June 28. The season contained 10 episodes, the last of which aired on August 23. The show returns in January 2013. An FX spokesperson told OTRC.com that the network has not determined yet over how many seasons the new 90 episodes will air, adding: "We're going to be running them consistently throughout the year."
In August, it was announced that Sheen is set to star in the comedy sequel "Scary Movie 5" alongside actress Lindsay Lohan.
In September, the first photo from the film was debuted, and shows Lohan and Sheen getting into bed for a sexy scene in the hit parody horror film franchise (See photo).
