Charlie Sheen phrases to be trademarked?

04/06/2011 by Corinne Heller

Charlie Sheen may trademark what have become some of his most-quoted catchphrases, namely "Duh, Winning," "Vatican Assassin," "Tiger Blood" and "Adonis DNA."

The California-based company Hyro-gliff recently filed requests on Sheen's behalf with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to trademark more than 22 of his quotes.

If approved, the actor and the company would retain the rights to use them on things such as clothing, slot machines, on television, during live performances, and on labels of alcoholic and other drinks and even pet foods.

Sheen has making headlines over the past few months due to a rehab stint for alcohol and drug abuse, a custody battle with his estranged wife and on-air rants on television, radio and on the Web against the co-creator of his CBS comedy series, "Two and a Half Men."

He was later axed from the show, which reportedly paid him more than $1.8 million an episode, and producers said he had "been engaged in dangerously self-destructive conduct and appears to be very ill." He has since sued them for $100 million.

Sheen has used his catchphrases during television and radio interviews, online as well as on stage during a live tour he began over the weekend.

Other remarks he wants to trademark include "I Am Not Bi-Polar, I Am Bi-Winning," "Defeat Is Not An Option," "Violent Torpedoes of Truth," "Tiger Plasma," "Tiger Water," "You've Been Warned," "Surprise, That's What Winners Do," "Rock Star From Mars" and simply, "Winning."

Apparel featuring some of Sheen's catchphrases, which people have often quoted on social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook, are already being sold in stores and on the Internet. The 45-year-old actor has also sold merchandise featuring his quotes from his website.

Hyro-gliff also applied to trademark Sheen's name and signature, as well as his nicknames for his Los Angeles-area home, which he dubs "Sober Valley Lodge," and his live-in girlfriends, a former porn star and his former nanny often referred to as "Sheen's Goddesses.
