Charlie Sheen files for divorce from Brooke Mueller

Charlie Sheen speaks to KABC Television, OnTheRedCarpet.com's parent company, in June 2010.Charlie Sheen filed for divorce on Monday from his third wife Brooke Mueller, the mother of their twin 1-year-old boys, after two years of marriage.

Sheen, 45, pleaded guilty in August to a misdemeanor assault charge regarding a December confrontation with Mueller, 33, in Colorado and was sentenced to 30 days in a rehabilitation center, 30 days of probation and 36 hours of anger management. The two had both since entered rehab separately.

Court papers show Sheen filed the divorce papers at a Los Angeles court, citing irreconcilable differences and seeking joint custody of their twins, Bob and Max. He listed the couple's separation date as the date of the confrontation with Mueller.

Sheen was hospitalized recently after security at the Plaza Hotel in New York complained about his behavior. His spokesperson said he had reacted badly to medication. He was released within hours.

Christina Walsh, the porn actress who was with Sheen in his hotel room, has said she wants the probation from his Colorado assault conviction revoked because of the incident.

Sheen had been visiting the city with his ex-wife Denise Richards and their two daughters, Sam, 6, and Lola, 5. Richards, who was married to the actor between 2002 and 2006, has said that the two are raising their children together despite being separated.

Sheen was married to model Donna Peele from 1995 to 1996. They have no children together.
