Channing Tatum talks 'Magic Mike,' 'weird' real-life stripper past (Video)
Channing Tatum admits he does not remember much about his days as a stripper in Florida, which serve as the inspiration to "Magic Mike."
"Somehow we're making a movie of this weird, gray area of my life," Tatum told OnTheRedCarpet.com host Rachel Smith at the film's premiere on June 24. "It was foggy. It's a foggy time when you're 18 and 19 years of age in Florida."
In the film, Tatum stars as "Magic" Mike Martingano, the prime money-maker of an all-male strip club called Xquisite run by former stripper Dallas (Matthew McConaughey). Mike takes a newcomer nick-named "The Kid" (Alex Pettyfer) under his wing to show him the ropes of the male stripping world while Mike tries to figure out a way to make an honest living.
The film's stars also include Matt Bomer and "True Blood" actor Joe Manganiello.
Tatum, 32, said having Steven Soderbergh as the film's director made it a lot easier for many of the film's actors to say yes to their taboo roles.
"It's easy to do when you have Soderbergh. All he has to do is pick up the phone and say, 'Hey, what's up, show up on this date. And then you're just like yep,'" Tatum said. "That's how I worked with him first. I did this little part in this movie called 'Haywire' with him and I was just like look I just want to come on set and learn from what you're doing."
The actor is known for being able to dance and made a name for himself in the film "Step Up," but Tatum admitted there was another actor on set that had some moves of his own.
"Matt Bomer was probably the best dancer out of everybody," Tatum told OnTheRedCarpet.
Bomer is likely best known for his role on the television series "White Collar."
"Joe would probably make & he just has to walk out on stage," Tatum added. "I mean he's like a human specimen."
"Magic Mike" hit theaters on June 29, watch the trailer below.
