Celine Dion gives birth to twin boys
Chart-topping singer Celine Dion gave birth to fraternal twin boys at a Florida hospital on Saturday, reports People.
"Celine, René and their son René-Charles are thrilled," Dion's representative told the magazine. While the twins are healthy; they were born prematurely and will spend the next few days in the incubator. "Celine is resting now and they plan to discuss what to name the boys when she wakes up."Dion checked into St. Mary's Medical Center in Florida on Monday to prepare for the birth of her twins on the advice of her doctors.
"She has been admitted to prevent the early delivery of her babies, which is the standard of care for any patient with twin pregnancy in this clinical setting," People magazine quoted St. Mary's Medical Center as saying in a statement, adding that the move is a preventive measure.
According to the magazine, the babies weighed 5 pounds, 4 ounces, and at 5 pounds, 10 ounces at the time of their birth.
Rene Angelil, 68, and Dion, 42, have a 9-year-old son and announced in July that Dion was expecting twin boys.
Dion has spoken about her difficulties getting pregnant in the past and said she became pregnant for a second time after a sixth attempt at in-vitro fertilization. She plans to return to the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas for a three year concert run in 2011.
