Cate Blanchett on cover of Intelligent Life magazine ... un-Photoshopped? (Photo)
Cate Blanchett, 42, appears on the cover of Intelligent Life magazine's March/April 2012 issue devoid of flashy makeup and her photo, the publication's editor says, is "at least trying to reflect real life."
An accompanying column was posted on the magazine's website. Editor Tim de Lisle references the "heavily Photoshopped images" of celebrities often seen in other outlets.
"Cate Blanchett, by contrast, appears on our cover in her working clothes, with the odd line on her face and faint bags under her eyes," he says. "She looks like what she is - a woman of 42, spending her days in an office, her evenings on stage and the rest of her time looking after three young children."
"We can't be too self-righteous about it, because, like anyone else who puts her on a cover, we are benefiting from her beauty and distinction," he added. "But the shot is at least trying to reflect real life. It's a curious sign of the times that this has become something to shout about."
Intelligent Life is a bi-monthly cultural magazine produced by the UK-based publication The Economist. Blanchett is known for her roles in films such as "The Lord of the Rings," its upcoming two-part prequel "The Hobbit" and "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button." She has also acted in plays in her native Australia. She and her husband, Andrew Upton, serve as artistic directors of the Sydney Theatre Company.
Blanchett was recently announced as one of the guest stars of the Lincoln Center Festival, which takes place in and around the campus of New York's Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts and features 72 performances from actors from seven countries. The shows run between July 5 and August 5. Blanchett is starring in the Sydney Theatre Company's production of "Uncle Vanya."
Other celebrities set to perform include ballet dancer and "Sex and the City" actor Mikhail Baryshnikov, who will appear in the new play "In Paris." Alan Cumming, a Broadway theatre actor who plays Eli Gold on the CBS series "The Good Wife,", will appear in the National Theatre of Scotland's one-person production of "Macbeth." Tickets are set to go on sale on April 2.
