Carson Daly is heading back to New York City's Times Square-- as a new host of the "Today" show.
The former MTV "Total Request Live" host was announced today as the host of the NBC daytime talk show's brand new "Orange Room," which will be integrated into the show's revamped set beginning Monday, Sept. 16.
The "Orange Room" is described as the first of its kind for the show, merging "Today's" in-studio content with its online platforms. The new space will feature social media integration, extended live-stream interviews with "Today" show guests, digital content from the show's websites and real-time web reactions to the news of the day.
Already a member of the NBC family as host of the popular singing competition series "The Voice," Daly joined "Today" show hosts Matt Lauer, Savannah Guthrie, Al Roker, Natalie Morales, Willie Geist, Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb to share with them his excitement for this new role.
"There's a lot of great things we're going to do, but I just want to say how grateful I am," Daly said to his new "Today" co-hosts. "This is your family, so to open it up for me I'm really gratefu,l for the rich history of this show and to be a small part of its future means a lot, thank you."
Daly rose to fame as the host of the popular MTV music video countdown series "Total Request Live," known more commonly as "TRL." He is also the host of his own late-night NBC show titled "Last Call" and has served as host of "The Voice" since its premiere in April 2011. Daly is also host of his own Los Angeles-based top 40 radio show.
