Carrie Underwood to perform at 2013 Emmy Awards

09/18/2013 by Corinne Heller

Carrie Underwood will perform at the 2013 Primetime Emmy Awards this month, organizers have announced.

The 30-year-old Grammy-winning country and pop star will sing as part of a tribute to two 1960s "events that changed the face of our world" -- the assassination of President John F. Kennedy on Nov. 22, 1963 and the performance of The Beatles on "The Ed Sullivan Show," which aired 80 days later, the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences said in a statement to OTRC.com on Sept. 18, 2013.

Underwood's performance will honor music from that area. "House of Lies" actor Don Cheadle will present the tribute, which focuses on television coverage of the events. He is one of six actors nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor In A Comedy Series this year.

The Academy announced earlier this month that the 2013 Emmys will also feature a performance from Elton John, who will pay tribute to Liberace, the subject of the Emmy-nominated HBO film "Behind The Candelabra," which stars Matt Damon and Michael Douglas. The actors will appear on stage as presenters.

The 2013 Primetime Emmy Awards will take place on Sunday, Sept. 22 at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT and air on CBS. Neil Patrick Harris is the host. Check out a full list of 2013 Emmy Award nominations here - NOTE: Several winners were already announced at this past Sunday's Creative Arts Emmy Awards.
