Carrie Underwood talks marriage, Laundromats with Oprah
Carrie Underwood opened up about married life and her tour necessities on an episode of "Oprah's Next Chapter," which is set to air on May 20.
Oprah visited Underwood's home in Nashville, Tennessee to talk about juggling a hugely successful music career with a marriage and her husband's professional hockey career. The couple also talked about their first kiss, on New Year's Eve.
"I feel like the longer I'm married, the more I - at first it was weird, like I can't believe I'm married and sometimes I still have those moments," Underwood told Oprah Winfrey. "I mean I spent 27 years not being married and I kinda got used to it, so the more I do it, the more I'm able to think of 'we.' For the first year, I would buy people presents and write 'Love, Carrie,' and I'm like okay now I'm 'Carrie and Mike,' there's two of us now. But I'm getting better all the time."
Underwood, who won season 4 of "American Idol," married NHL hockey player Mike Fisher almost two years ago after meeting at one of her concerts in his native Canada.
When Winfrey asked the couple if they wanted to have children soon, Underwood said, "Soon? No," while Fisher quickly answered, "Yeah of course."
Underwood did seem open to the idea though, telling the media mogul of her husband, "He's going to be the best dad ever, and that makes the whole parent situation seem much better."
The 29-year-old country singer told Winfrey that she tends to go to the Laundromat on her days off, despite having money to pay others to wash her clothes, because she is freaked out by the idea of other people touching her laundry.
"It makes tour life a little more difficult because those are things I really don't have time to do, so that's what I do on my days off. We go to the Laundromat," Underwood said. "I get my quarters, we go to the Laundromat, and we go do our laundry. I just don't like other people doing my laundry. It freaks me out."
Underwood's newest album "Blown Away" is currently No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, for the second week. The album marks the singer's fourth album, the third to land in the No. 1 spot on the charts.
The "American Idol" winner and five-time Grammy Award-winner performed her single "Good Girl," the first single off her brand new album "Blown Away" on the "Dancing With The Stars" elimination round this week.
