"Sunday Night Football" is keeping it country and sassy.

Carrie Underwood, a 30-year-old singer known for songs such as "Before He Cheats" and "Jesus, Take the Wheel," is set to perform the "Sunday Night Football" opening theme on NBC, the network announced in a statement obtained by OTRC.com on Tuesday, May 6. The news comes shortly after fellow country star Faith Hill's announcement that she would be stepping down from the gig.

Underwood will perform "Waiting All Day for Sunday Night," the opening theme for "Sunday Night Football," at the start of the upcoming season in September. The sports show is primetime television's No. 1 program.

"I am so excited to be a part of Sunday Night Football!!! I've been a football fan my entire life...We're going to have so much fun!" Underwood Tweeted on May 7.

The six-time Grammy award-winner is replacing Hill, 45, who previously belted the tune from 2007 to 2012. In April, the "This Kiss" crooner announced that she would be leaving the show, adding that it was a "difficult" decision.

"Amazing 2 have been part of SNF - an honor. I've just let everyone there know it's time 2 let someone else rock the open," Hill Tweeted in April. "... Difficult decision. Kinda emotional. Love all u guys at SNF - I'll b watching!!!"

In November 2006, the country starlets made headlines when Underwood won a Country Music Award for Female Vocalist of the Year and a split screen on the live telecast showed Hill exclaim something in reaction when the winner was announced (See video).

Hill later denied that she was being intentionally disrespectful, calling Underwood a "deserving vocalist."

"The idea that I would act disrespectful towards a fellow musician is unimaginable to me," Hill said in statement, obtained by People magazine. "For this to become a focus of attention, given the talent gathered, is utterly ridiculous. Carrie is a talented and deserving female vocalist of the year."

Underwood is currently headlining her North America tour, "Blown Away." The tour, which launched last June, is set to consist of a total of 112 dates by the time it wraps on May 23 in Abbotsford, Canada.
