"My husband is working with kids at his hockey school, and Im here," Underwood, a 27-year-old singer and former American Idol winner said on The Today Show on Friday. "Were both very busy people and understand each others lives and things like that so were OK with it."

Dressed in a jacket, shirt, tie, shorts, platform ankle boots and black thigh-high socks, Underwood performed the songs "Cowboy Casanova" and "Undo It", from her 2009 third studio album Play On, as well as her 2007 hit "Before He Cheats" in a televised outdoor performance for the show.

She is set to tour the United States between September and December, while her husband begins training for the upcoming National Hockey League season. A portion of the proceeds are set to go to charity.

The two had met at one of her concerts in Ottawa. Fisher proposed to Underwood in December after dating for more than a year.

Underwood, a Grammy winner, plans to release her next single from her third album, "Mama's Song", which was once a promotional download.

"I'm just in such a happy place in my life right now and it really seems to fit and that song means more to me than ever," she told The Today Show in a web segment.

Underwood, who won the fourth season of American Idol in 2005, said her recent album features songs co-written by Kara DioGuardi, who was recently reported to have either quit or been axed as a judge on the show after joining it in 2008.

However, Underwood says she does not know what will happen with the series, saying: "I'm like, 'I know what you know.' Idol always, obviously, keeps you guessing."
