Britney Spears talks to 'Glee' creator Ryan Murphy; Show may do another Madonna episode
Glee creator Ryan Murphy revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that he talked to Britney Spears about her possible tribute episode. "Im talking to Britney. We're talking about it. I dont know if Im going to do it or not. But the tone of it is so different from Madonna because all the musical numbers are fantasies.
He also said that the show might tackle another Madonna tribute. "We are doing another Madonna episode. It will probably be later in the season. It's like we run in a pattern where well do one that is just sort of a regular journeyman episode, that's sort of like comedy and also drama. And then well do one thats just crazy, spectacular big, which is Britney or Madonna."
The pop singer, best known for hits such as "Baby, One More Time", "Toxic" and "Gimme More" has not commented on the report but did Tweet on July 22 that she watches the show. Watching @GleeOnFox. What are you guys up to tonight, she wrote.
Spears launched her "Circus" comeback tour last year and has managed to rebuild an image many thought was forever tarnished by psychiatric care stints, excessive partying and a now-infamous head-shaving incident.
Glee recently nabbed 19 Emmy nominations. The FOX musical comedy series features a group of high school misfits singing popular music as well as Broadway hits.
It was unclear if Spears is set to appear on Glee in person. The previous debut season featured guest appearances by crooner Josh Groban, pop singer and actress Olivia Newton-John and Neil Patrick Harris. John Stamos has confirmed he will appear in season 2.
Murphy had told OnTheRedCarpet.com in April that Spears "certainly would love to do it. And I think shes phenomenally talented. And the kids and the cast certainly have a great connection to her. So maybe, yeah. Were going to talk about it."
There is one cast member who can't wait to sing a few notes on a Spears song. I love it, Glee star Jenna Ushkowitz told OnTheRedCarpet.com earlier this month about the potential Spears episode . "I really hope its true because Britney was my Madonna."
