Britney Spears criticized for bloody fingernails, chewing gum at 'X Factor' announcement
Britney Spears has not even begun her judging duties for "The X Factor," but it seems the tables have already turned and she is the one being judged.
The pop singer has been criticized for chewing gum and sporting bloody cuticles at the FOX network upfront presentation on May 14. News outlets like the New York Daily News also posted unflattering photos of cellulite on her thighs, in one of the two skintight mini dresses she wore to the event. One of the dresses was marred by what appeared to be lipstick stains.
Even before FOX announced that the 30-year-old singer would join the judging panel, critics raised concerns that Spears, who suffered a meltdown that saw her shaving her own head at a salon (watch video) in 2007, would not be able to handle the stress.
Spears, who will earn a reported $15 million for the "X Factor" gig, has not addressed critics. It was announced on Monday, May 14 that Spears and Demi Lovato would join Simon Cowell and L.A. Reid on the "X Factor" judging panel, replacing Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger, who left the show in January.
Among the critics was the new "America's Got Talent" judge Howard Stern, who recently slammed "American Idol" judge Jennifer Lopez and Spears.
"I think it's a wonderful decision. Britney still thinks the earth is flat," Stern told reporters at an NBC press conference. "I don't anticipate great opinions from her. I think she's gonna sit there like J.Lo, 'Oh, you're wonderful, you're terrific. You think I can get a perfume endorsement out of this?'...I'll tune in to see what kind of train wreck she is."
