(Photo courtesy of ABC) Brian Austin Green, who plays a beefy contractor on the upcoming seventh season of Desperate Housewives, says his new wife Megan Fox helped boost his confidence after he suffered a personal crisis following the end of his old series, the 1990s drama Beverly Hills, 90210.

"She brought out parts of me that I had lost in my last relationship," Green, 37, told Details magazine in an interview published in its October 2010 issue.

Green and General Hospital star Vanessa Marcil met on the set of Beverly Hills, 90210 in the late 1990s and the two have 9-year-old son. He said he hated the fame that came with being a cast member, which included obligatory car shows, shopping mall appearances and "Grad Nite at Disneyland." After the series ended, he said he did not want to leave his house.

"I was afraid of the press," Green said. I was afraid of people's opinions of me. I would walk into a Coffee Bean and not want to look the guy behind the counter in the eyes because I was afraid he was thinking, 'Oh, that's that ridiculous guy from 90210 who put out the hip-hop album.'"

On the original series, Green played awkward teenager David Silver, who witnessed his best friend accidentally shooting himself, worked as a hip hop DJ, hosted a college radio show, developed a drug addiction and romanced Tori Spelling's character, Donna Martin.

He and Fox, a 24-year-old actress who starred in the first two Transformers movies as well as the action film Jonah Hex, married in June after dating for about six years.

"Megan was a big part of boosting my confidence," he said "And at the same time, I was somebody responsible and grounded for her to be around. We just matched."

ABC confirmed to OnTheRedCarpet.com in July that Green, who has had parts on shows such as Smallville and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, would guest-star on Desperate Housewives as a "contractor who catches the eyes of some of the neighbors on Wisteria Lane", namely Bree, played by Marcia Cross. The new season premieres on September 26.

"I've got to say it's a whole new world for me," Green said. "I've never played a hunky guy. There was one day when I had to take my shirt off. I must have done 400 push-ups. I feel like I understand the pressure that women go through. I feel, like, all-woman at times."
