Brad Pitt in Chanel No. 5 ad, is first male spokesmodel (Video)
You know what they say - sometimes, the best man for the job is ... Brad Pitt?
The actor, fiance of Angelina Jolie and longtime international heartthrob has been named the first male spokesmodel for Chanel No. 5, the iconic fragrance whose past advertising campaigns have been lead by female icons such as Marilyn Monroe and Nicole Kidman.
"Blessed with legendary talent, fame and looks, no actor compares to Brad Pitt," the Chanel company said in a statement obtained by OTRC.com. "Of course, the same could be said of No. 5."
"What's important to remember about Chanel No. 5 is how revolutionary this fragrance is; when it was introduced, it broke all the rules," the group quoted Pitt as saying. "No. 5 has always been the most iconic women's fragrance. That's what I see being the appeal of this campaign; it goes beyond the abstract of emotion or beauty to evoke what is timeless: a woman's spirit."
Pitt's ad campaign for Chanel No. 5 was directed by Joe Wright, who helmed movies such as "Pride and Prejudice," "Atonement" and "Anna Karenina," all of which star actress and Chanel's Coco Mademoiselle perfumes spokesmodel Keira Knightley.
The actor dons long, shoulder-length hair and a goatee in the ads, which are in black and white. Each one "resembles" a short poem," according to the director.
"It's not a journey," Pitt recites in the black and white film. "Every journey ends, but we go on. The world turns and we turn with it. Plans disappear. Dreams take over. But wherever I go, there you are. My luck, my fate, my fortune. Chanel No. 5. Inevitable."
"If he had a squeakly little high voice, there's no way he would be Brad Pitt," Wright said in Chane;'s statement. "There are lots of handsome men around but it's his soul that comes out in his voice. It gets under your skin."
