Brad Pitt debuts furniture collection with Frank Pollaro

Brad Pitt is proving himself to be a bit of a Renaissance man.

The 48-year-old actor and architecture buff is preparing to launch his new furniture collection, which he designed with furniture maker Frank Pollaro, who is known for his Art Deco reproductions.

Pitt designed about a dozen pieces, including tables, chairs, a bed and a bathtub (Check out photos). The collection, along with about 45 pieces by Pollaro, will be unveiled in New York from November 13 through 15.

"I've been doodling ideas for buildings and furniture since the early 1990s, when I first discovered [Charles Rennie] Mackintosh and Frank Lloyd Wright," Pitt told Architectural Digest. "Actually, I found Wright in college, when looking for a lazy two-point credit to get out of French. It forever changed my life."

Pitt met his design partner when the actor commissioned Pollaro to make a reproduction Ruhlmann desk and the furniture maker saw Pitt's sketchbook of "literally thousands" of designs. Pitt said Pollaro asked, "Why don't we make some of this stuff real?" and the collaboration began.

Pitt said his meetings with Pollaro lasted "anywhere from seven to ten hours," perhaps because of his "unhealthy" obsession with quality. When asked about how he feels about being called a furniture designer, the actor answered humbly, "Let's not get ahead of ourselves."

Pitt utilized his interest in design when launching the Make It Right Foundation, which enlisted well-known architects to build high-quality, affordable housing in hurricane-devastated New Orleans.

It was announced in April that Pitt and Angelina Jolie, who have been together for more than six years and are parents to six children, were engaged.

Pitt will next appear in the mobster film, "Killing Them Softly," which is slated to open in theaters on November 30.
