Blake Lively: Getting my own 'Green Lantern' Barbie doll is a 'huge deal'

06/16/2011 by Olivia Allin

Blake Lively of "Gossip Girl" fame ditched her signature blonde locks to play Ryan Reynold's love interest in the action sci-fi movie, "Green Lantern" and was most excited about getting her own doll.

"We went to WonderCon to show our first ten minutes of footage and I saw a Barbie sitting there with my face and with my mole!" Lively told OnTheRedCarpet.com special correspondent George Pennacchio of KABC Television. "I could not believe it, it was the craziest thing ever. It was not just an action figure - Barbie! That was a huge, huge deal for me. I never thought I would be an actor, much less have my own Barbie!"

"Green Lantern" is based on the DC Comic book that follows fighter pilot Hal Jordan (Reynolds), who becomes the first human inducted into the Green Lantern Corps., a brotherhood of warriors sworn to keep intergalactic order. Each Green Lantern wears a ring that gives him super powers. The Green Lanterns come together to fight a new enemy called Parallax and with the help of his fellow pilot and childhood sweetheart Carol Ferris (Blake Lively), Jordan overcomes his fear to join the fight.

Lively's character starts the series as an ally, but if the franchise continues, audiences will eventually see her character Carol turn into the villain Star Sapphire.

"If this movie continues - if we make a second and a third, Carol actually becomes a villain in the comics," Lively said. "So if they explored that, I would get to really be an action star and get to be a villain. That would be a lot of fun."

Though Lively said that it took months of physical training to prepare for her role in the action film, she said that the experience was incredible.

"I had a lot of fun, even down to just changing my hair color," Lively said. "The comics have been around for so long and there's such a devout fan base, that you have to be true to them by changing the way I look and stepping into that, doing the flight training, we did flight simulators and spent some time with jets, acclimating ourselves to these fighter planes."

"That's one of the most rewarding parts of our jobs, it was all the prep," she said. "As a human being, that's such cool stuff! The product is one thing but the experiences you have leading into it is the best part."

Lively is best known for her role of socialite Serena van der Woodsen in the CW show, "Gossip Girl" and has starred in films like "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants," "The Private Lives of Pippa Lee" and "The Town."

The 23-year-old actress recently made headlines over a string of nude photos, which her rep denied were authentic. She has also been romantically linked to Leonardo DiCaprio, who recently broke up with Israeli supermodel Bar Refaeli.

"Green Lantern" hits theaters on Friday, June 17. Check out a trailer below.
