Billy Crystal opens ceremony as Hannibal Lecter - Oscar History (Video)

02/17/2012 by OnTheRedCarpet.com Staff

Throughout this Oscar season, we are looking back at some of the great moments in Academy Awards history. At the 64th Academy Awards in 1992, Billy Crystal opened the ceremony dressed as a special guest...muzzle and all.

The comedian was wheeled out on a gurney on stage by two men in doctor's coats wearing a muzzle like Hannibal Lecter while music from the film "Silence of the Lambs" played in the background.

Crystal greeted Anthony Hopkins, who played Lector in the film, saying, "I'm having some of the Academy over for dinner. Care to Join me?"

Hopkins cracked up and replied, "Yes, anytime."

The film went on to win five Oscars, including Best Actor for Hopkins and Best Picture.
