Billy Bob Thornton's daughter Amanda Brumfield sentenced to 20 years in prison for child's death
Billy Bob Thornton's estranged daughter Amanda Brumfield has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for aggravated manslaughter in the death of a child.
The 32-year-old woman was convicted and found guilty of the offense earlier this year. She was accused of causing the 2008 death of her best friend's 1-year-old daughter, Olivia Madison Garcia. Brumfield had said the child, her goddaughter, hit her head by accident and had fallen while trying to climb out of a playpen.
Brumfield wore a dark blue jail jumpsuit and was shackled at the waist as she waited to be sentenced on Thursday, October 7, The Orlando Sentinel reported, adding that she broke down before the judge and said: "I miss Olivia just as much as anybody does."
Several members of her family and friends also attended her sentencing. They wore white shirts as a sign of support and appeared angered when her punishment was announced, the newspaper said.
Brumfield had faced a potential life sentence as well as charges of first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse. She was found not guilty of both.
Thornton has not commented. Brumfield is one of his four children - from three different women - and her mother is Thornton's first wife, Melissa Lee Gatlin. The actor has been married and divorced five times, most recently to actress Angelina Jolie. The two were married between 2000 and 2003 and have no children together.
