Beyonce lip-synced national anthem at Inauguration? (Video)
Beyonce's performance of the national anthem at the Presidential Inauguration of President Barack Obama on Monday was pre-recorded, says a spokesperson for the U.S. Marine Band.
A rep for the R&B singer had no immediate comment. U.S. Marine Band spokesperson Kristen DuBois told CNN that Beyonce "pre-recorded" her performance of the "Star Spangled Banner" the evening before the ceremony, after rehearsing with the band.
"We don't know why the decision was made," DuBois said. "She did not actually sing."
The New York Post's Page Six quoted DuBois as saying: "All music is pre-recorded for the ceremony because there are so many eventualities and conditions that day. We performed, live, the band. But we received last-minute word that Beyonce was going to use the pre-recorded vocal track. Those were the instructions we were given."
An OTRC.com poll from Monday showed that more than 66 percent of readers thought Beyonce did a great job singing the national anthem.
Beyonce attended the inauguration with husband and fellow R&B star Jay-Z (see photos of them and other celebrities, such as Katy Perry and John Mayer, at the ceremony). Beyonce is a longtime supporter of the president and First Lady Michelle Obama.
Other stars who attended the event included singers Kelly Clarkson and James Taylor, who also performed (watch videos, above), as well as Eva Longoria and Kerry Washington. Page Six quoted a rep for Clarkson as saying: "Kelly did sing live!"
Beyonce is meanwhile preparing for another major public gig -- she is set to perform during the 2013 Super Bowl halftime show on February 3. She will reportedly be joined by fellow Destiny's Child group members Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams. The trio is promoting a new song -- their first in eight years -- and a new compilation album.
