Ben Vereen files for divorce from wife of 36 years
Ben Vereen, a Tony Award-winning actor, is splitting with his wife of 36 years.
The actor filed for divorce in Los Angeles on September 13, according to The Associated Press, citing irreconcilable differences.
Vereen married his wife, Nancy Bruner Vereen, in July 1976. According to court documents, Vereen says the pair split in March. He is also asking a court to terminate his estranged wife's ability to collect spousal support. It is Vereen's second marriage.
The 65-year-old Broadway veteran won a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical in 1973 for his role in "Pippin."
Vereen has also had many roles on television and film including the miniseries "Roots," a Golden Globe nominated performance in the film "Funny Lady," "Webster," "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" and "How I Met Your Mother."
