Barbara Walters, 83, has chickenpox, Whoopi Goldberg, her co-host on ABC's "The View," revealed on the show on Monday, January 28.

Walters has been hospitalized for more than a week. She was first admitted for a head injury, which she suffered after falling at a pre-inaugural party in Washington, on January 19. Goldberg said on "The View" on Monday that she has been transferred to a hospital in New York.

"We want to give you an update on Barbara," she said. "You all know that she fell and cut her head 10 days ago, and then was running a temperature, but it turns out it is all the result of a delayed childhood. Barbara has the chickenpox. She'd never had it as a child. So now she's been told to rest, she's not allowed any visitors. and we're telling you, Barbara, no scratching."

"We love you, we miss you," Goldberg added. "We just don't want to hug you."

In May 2010, Walters had heart surgery but returned to active duty on "The View" that September. Chickenpox mostly affects children. It could lead to complications among older patients.

Aside from her work on "The View," the veteran news anchor is known for her work on "20/20," "Today" and her annual special, "10 Most Fascinating People."
