Aziz Ansari recently mowed the lawn at a very famous landmark - New York City's Central Park.

The popular tourist destination is set to re-open its lawns and ball fields to the public on Saturday, April 7. Ansari plays Tom Haverford on the NBC comedy series "Parks and Recreation," which continues its fourth season on April 19 after a hiatus.

The 29-year-old actor and comedian rode a lawn mower and helped cut down about an acre of grass at the 15-acre Sheep Meadow as part of the Central Park Conservancy's celebration to mark its "First Mow" of a major lawn, also touted as its "kickoff to spring." The 843-acre park's lawns and ball fields are closed to the public during the off-season.

At the event, which took place on Monday, April 2, Ansari was also given an honorary membership to the Conservancy and an ID tag pronouncing him the "Ambassador of Spring" at the park, which receives more than 200,000 visitors a day, mostly on weekends, during the summer.

"When I initially agreed to do this, I thought it would be later in the day and that I would be getting a key to the city," Ansari said at the event. "Instead, it's really early and I'm getting a key to the city's lawn mower, which I guess is kinda nice. I'll put that along with the other keys I have - the key to the city's juicer, the key to the city's vacuum cleaner and of course, the key to the city's Showtime Rotisserie grill."

He later added that the lawn mower he used was "way nicer" than any one he ever handled.

Ansari is also preparing to embark on a stand-up comedy tour, which begins on April 10 in Florida, and is selling his comedy special, "Dangerously Delicious," on his official website for $5. Comedian Louis CK, who guest starred on "Parks and Recreation" earlier this year, offered an online video of his own special for download for the same price in late 2011. He made $1 million in 10 days.
