Ashton Kutcher files for divorce from Demi Moore, 1 year after split
Ashton Kutcher has filed for divorce from Demi Moore, more than a year after the actress announced they would end their marriage, which had lasted six years.
The 34-year-old actor submitted the papers at a Los Angeles court on Friday, December 21, and signed them using his real name -- Christopher A. Kutcher, OTRC.com has learned. He cited irreconcilable differences for the split.
He is not seeking spousal support and did not list the date of separation. He also wants both to pay their separate attorney fees. Rights over their properties are to be determined later.
The two have no children together. Moore, 50, has three adult daughters with ex-husband Bruce Willis.
Moore was the first to announce her and Kutcher's split publicly, through her rep. On Nov. 17, 2011, a week before Thanksgiving, she said in a statement: "It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I have decided to end my six-year marriage to Ashton. As a woman, a mother and a wife there are certain values and vows that I hold sacred, and it is in this spirit that I have chosen to move forward with my life."
"I will forever cherish the time I spent with Demi," Kutcher said on his Twitter page the same day. "Marriage is one of the most difficult things in the world and unfortunately sometimes they fail. Love and Light, AK."
The news followed reports of alleged infidelity by Kutcher, which he never confirmed.
He and Moore had wed in a Kabbalah ceremony at their home in Beverly Hills on Sept. 24, 2005. Photos from the event were published in OK! magazine, as seen on the website of BBC News. Willis and his and Moore's daughters attended the wedding.
Following the split, Kutcher moved out of their Beverly Hills home. Moore suffered a health scare in January and was hospitalized briefly. She then reportedly underwent treatment at a rehab center in Utah and took a Caribbean vacation.
Moore and Kutcher have have largely stayed out of the spotlight since the split. Moore even stopped posting on Twitter for several months before returning earlier this spring. The actress, who went by the alias @mrskutcher, asked her followers -- who now total more than 5.5 million -- for suggestions for a new username before changing it in May to @JustDemi.
Several months ago, Kutcher began spending time with his former "That '70s Show" co-star, Mila Kunis, 29. Paparazzi have photographed the two kissing, hugging and holding hands. Moore has not commented publicly about the relationship.
In November, the actress was linked romantically to a 26-year-old art dealer named Vito Schnabel but the two reportedly split earlier this month, according to the New York Post. They have not commented.
The actress went on another Twitter hiatus over the summer and returned earlier this month, promoting her charity work with her and Kutcher's Demi and Ashton (DNA) Foundation, which works to stop sexual exploitation and abuse of children, and is also promoting her More fragrance and jewelry collection, a collaboration with Oriflame.
In June, Moore had filmed scenes for the movie "Very Good Girls," which stars Dakota Fanning, Elizabeth Olsen, Peter Sarsgaard, Clark Gregg, Ellen Barkin, Richard Dreyfuss and "Mad Men" actress Kiernan Shipka. The film is set for release in 2013.
Over the past year, Kutcher has been keeping busy with his regular acting job on the CBS sitcom "Two and a Half Men" and also filmed the biopic "Jobs," which sees him play the late founder of Apple, Steve Jobs. He was photographed on the movie set in India in August. An official photo of him in character was released earlier this month.
