Ashley Olsen, 25, quits acting, covers Elle UK with Mary-Kate (Poll)
Ashley Olsen, who rose to fame with her twin sister Mary-Kate as a child star on the comedy series "Full House," says she has quit acting in Hollywood.
The 25-year-old hasn't appeared in an on-screen project since 2004, when she co-starred with her sister in the movie "New York Minute." The two have in recent years concentrated on their $1 billion fashion empire.
"It was time to step behind the process," Ashley Olsen told Elle UK magazine in an interview published in its April 2012 issue. "It doesn't mean I'm not interested in Hollywood," she explains. "I like the way it operates, I like the people who are involved and the sense of possibility. But if I ever get back in, it's not going to be as an actress."
"I don't have to be a pretty face," she added. "I've done that, but now it's important and liberating to be on the other side of the lens. I don't like to be the center of attention anymore."
Mary-Kate Olsen told the magazine that it "just felt right to move away" from the spotlight.
The Olsen twins appear on dual covers of Elle UK's latest issue. Ashley Olsen is wearing a Dolce & Gabbana jeweled dress, while her twin sister sports a jeweled Prada coat. (see above) They are also pictured together inside the issue.
The Olsen twins began their acting careers when they were toddlers, playing Michelle Tanner on the sitcom "Full House," which ran between 1987 and 1995. They went on to star together in several films. Ashley Olsen's final acting role was in the 2004 movie "New York Minute," which also marked her last project she starred in with her twin.
The pair's fashion empire is made up of several clothing and accessory collections, such as the higher-end Elizabeth and James and The Row as well as Olsenboye for JC Penney. The twins are often seen at major fashion events and showcased their chic, personal styles. Vogue magazine named them the Best Dressed Siblings of 2011.
Mary-Kate Olsen's most recent acting role was in the 2011 movie "Beastly," a modern-day adaptation of "Beauty and the Beast," which saw her play a teenage witch alongside Vanessa Hudgens and Alex Pettyfer.
Meanwhile, their younger sister Elizabeth is drawing attention for her own acting performances. The 23-year-old starred in the 2011 film "Martha Marcy May Marlene," which earned mostly positive reviews from top film critics. She can be seen next in the horror film "Silent House," which hits theaters on Friday, March 9.
