'Arrested Development' returns on May 26 after 7 years (Poll)
"Arrested Development" fans -- it's official. The show is making its big return in 2013.
The comedy series, which ended over six years ago after suffering low ratings, is set to return on May 26 as a Netflix original series. The fourth season will contain 15 brand new episodes, and will be available for Netflix members to watch instantly at launch.
"Arrested Development is now widely viewed as one of the top TV comedies of all time and Mitch Hurwitz is bringing it to Netflix in a brand new way, crafted for the on-demand generation that has come to discover the show in the years since it last appeared on TV," said Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer for Netflix. "The highly anticipated return of this show is sure to make history all over again."
The show, which aired for three seasons before its cancellation, is set to have the new season available to all Netflix members instantly at 12:01 AM P.T. in territories where the service is available.
"So .@batemanjason .@MitchHurwitz .@RealRonHoward ...see you May 26th? #ArrestedDevelopment," cast member Will Arnett Tweeted on April 4, with a corresponding photo of himself wearing a jacket that reads, "Arrested Development."
The sitcom ended its television run in 2006 despite receiving critical acclaim and having an extensive cult following. It featured the dysfunctional, formerly wealthy Bluth family trying to maintain a lavish lifestyle without the means they had before the patriarch of the family got busted for suspicious accounting deals.
The show starred Jeffrey Tambor as George Bluth Sr., Jessica Walter as his wife Lucile Bluth, Jason Bateman, Arnett and Tony Hale as their sons, Michael, Gob and Buster Bluth and Portia de Rossi as their sister Lindsay.
Michael Cera played Michael Bluth's teenage son, George Michael and David Cross played Lindsay's husband Tobias while Alia Shawkat played the couple's daughter Maeby.
In July 2012, it was announced that the show would be returning to Netflix, though the details had yet to be announced. Bateman posted photos of Cera on the set of the series, Tweeting: with Bateman Tweeting: "My son, arriving yesterday."
He later posted another photo of Cera on the set holding a door open with his eyes closed saying, "A grandson, looking for his Gangee."
