Armie Hammer joins cast of 'The Brothers Grimm: Snow White'
Armie Hammer has signed on to play Prince Andrew Alcott in Relativity's film "The Brothers Grimm: Snow White," according to Hollywood Reporter.
Hammer joins Julia Roberts, who previously signed on to play the Evil Queen. There is no word yet on who will play Snow White in the Brett Ratner-produced film.
In the fairy tale, which spurred a 1937 animated Disney film, the Evil Queen aims to destroy her stepdaughter after a magic mirror tells her Snow White is the fairest one in the land. In the film adaptation, Snow White and the seven dwarfs work to reclaim their destroyed kingdom from the Evil Queen.
"The Brothers Grimm: Snow White" is due for release in 2012 and is currently in development. A script has been written but a production schedule has not yet been released.
Hammer is best known for playing Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss in 2010's Oscar-winning film, "The Social Network." The actor also appeared on several episodes of CW's "Gossip Girl" and in the movies "Billy: The Early Years" and "Flicka." Hammer has also signed on to play Clyde Tolson in the J. Edgar Hoover biopic, "J. Edgar" which stars Leonardo DiCaprio and is set for release in February 2011.
Another "Snow White" film adaptation, "Snow White and the Huntsman," also in the works.
"Twilight" actress Kristen Stewart is reportedly being courted for the starring role. "Lord of the Rings" actor Viggo Mortensen may also star and Charlize Theron is reportedly in negotiations to play the Evil Queen.
