Aretha Franklin to give comeback concerts in May
Aretha Franklin is set to perform again in May, marking her first concerts since she underwent surgery for a mysterious ailment in December.
The "Queen of Soul," who turns 69 on Thursday, March 25, will take the stage at the Chicago Theatre on May 19. Franklin is also set to sing at the Seneca Niagara Casino in Niagara Falls, New York on May 28.
Franklin canceled two concerts in August 2010 after breaking two ribs in a fall. In November, she canceled all gigs and appearances through May 2011 by order of her doctors.
The singer underwent surgery on December 2. She later said her "problem has been resolved," but did not specify her ailment.
On February 11, Franklin made her first public appearance since her surgery at a basketball game in Detroit.
Franklin told talk show host Wendy Williams earlier this month that she was "feeling wonderful" and that she also lost 85 pounds.
The singer, who has struggled with her weight for many years, has denied that she had gastric bypass surgery.
