Aretha Franklin reveals her choices for biopic actresses

02/12/2011 by Olivia Allin

Aretha Franklin attended a Detroit Pistons game on Friday night with Reverand Jesse Jackson and said she's feeling "really great."

The outing is one of Franklin's first public appearances since undergoing surgery in December from an undisclosed medical issue.

Franklin was rumored to be suffering from pancreatic cancer but never confirmed reports. The 68-year-old "Queen of Soul" canceled all concerts and appearances from November through May 2011 by order of her doctors. She underwent surgery on December 2nd and said her "problem has been resolved."

The singer revealed during halftime that she hopes to resume her public schedule in May and will probably start with a show at Radio City Music Hall. She was in good spirits, cheering on Dwyane Wade and visiting with the players.

"I'm feeling really great," Franklin told the Associated Press. "Loving the game, loving the game."

On Tuesday, Franklin revealed to "Showbiz Tonight" host AJ Hammer that in regards to the casting of her biopic, Halle Berry won't be playing her, but that Jennifer Hudson and Fantasia Barrino are on her list. Barrino's manager confirmed that the "American Idol" winner was "in discussions" about the role and Hudson said that she met with Franklin a few years ago and would be honored to be chosen.

Halle Berry said recently that she wouldn't be able to do the singer justice but would have considered it if she could "carry a tune."

The legendary singer will be honored at the 53rd annual Grammy Awards on Sunday night with an all-star tribute by singers including Christina Aguilera and Jennifer Hudson, according to reports. Joining the singers on stage will be Yolanda Adams, Martina McBride and Florence Welch.

There is no word yet on whether Franklin will appear at the 53rd annual Grammy Awards, which will air live on Sunday at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
