Anton Yelchin: I almost shot Dave Franco shooting 'Fright Night'
Anton Yelchin had the heavy task of taking down a vampire in "Fright Night," but the actor says one of his scariest enemies was sleep deprivation.
"Chris [Mintz-Plasse] and I had four excruciating days of shooting this fight scene and it was hard because it was like all-nighters and we just kept each other up and then I almost shot Davey [Franco] with a shotgun, I chopped Chris in the head with an ax," Yelchin told OnTheRedCarpet.com co-host Rachel Smith at a recent screening. "It was late - you give tired actors weapons and that's what happens!"
In "Fright Night," the "Star Trek" actor plays high school senior Charley Brewster, who discovers the identity of his evil vampire neighbor Jerry (Colin Farrell) and enlists the help of a Las Vegas magician, portrayed by "Doctor Who" star David Tennant, to try and stop him.
"There's comedy and there's drama and there's horror and that's kind of the balance of it, making sure there's both funny and scary and at the same time, it's grounded in enough reality so that the hyper-reality of the characters makes sense, so you believe it," Yelchin told OnTheRedCarpet.com.
"Fright Night" is a remake of a 1985 horror movie and is set for release on Friday, August 19.
"I like that in this film, [Colin Farrell]'s actually a monster, it's not like the other vampires you see in movies because he's just dangerous and destructive and he just wants to kill and destroy and that's fun," Yelchin continued. "He's your nemesis and you have to destroy him or he'll destroy you -- that's why it's a blast."
Yelchin is best known for his role as Chekhov in the 2009 "Star Trek" movie and in films like "Charlie Bartlett" and "Terminator Salvation."
The 22-year-old actor will next appear alongside Milla Jovovitch in "The Winter Queen" and opposite Willem Dafoe in "Odd Thomas." He is also expected to appear in the "Star Trek" sequel.
