Anne Hathaway covers Glamour, talks 'shame' over body image concerns
Anne Hathaway, who went to great measures to shed pounds for her role in the upcoming film "Les Miserables," talked to Glamour magazine about how her concerns over body image are still a source of "shame."
"I still feel the stress over 'Am I thin enough? Am I too thin? Is my body the right shape?'" she says in the January 2013 issue of Glamour magazine. "There's an obsessive quality to it that I thought I would've grown out of by now. It's an ongoing source of shame for me."
Hathaway, 30, appears in "Les Miserables" as Fantine, a mother who is fired from her factory job and sells her necklace, her hair, her teeth and finally, her body, so she can support her young daughter, Cosette. In November, the actress told Vogue magazine for their December issue that she was "obsessive" about her weight, and that the idea was to look "near death" for the coveted role. Hathaway also admitted that she lived off of only two thin squares of dried oatmeal paste a day to shed 25 pounds for the film.
Hathaway endured a number of tough scenes during filming, including the scene where Fantine has her hair cut off and her teeth yanked out. Russell Crowe also stars in the film as Javert, the nemesis to Hugh Jackman's character Jean Valjean. The musical film is helmed by Tom Hooper, director of the Oscar-winning film "The King's Speech" - and also stars Amanda Seyfried, Helena Bonham Carter and Sacha Baron Cohen.
Hathaway made headlines in September when she and fiancee Adam Shulman tied the knot in a ceremony in Big Sur. The "Dark Knight Rises" actress gushed to Glamour about married life, calling her new husband her "other half."
"It's wonderful," Hathaway told the magazine. "I feel like I've found my other half, and I'm so excited about getting to love him for the rest of our lives&He's a good man. He's beyond intelligent. He loves fearlessly. His beliefs are beautiful. He's my best friend. I love him. I just feel that I have the greatest husband in the world for me."
