Anna Wintour talks fashion and gay marriage on 'The Colbert Report'
Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour visited "The Colbert Report" on Wednesday and talked about the Met costume exhibit and President Obama's support of same-sex marriage.
"I am thrilled. There were tears in the office at Vogue today in the support of gay marriage," Wintour told Colbert. "We're thrilled about the president. I think it's a long overdue endorsement, and we're honored that he's come forward finally."
Earlier in the year, Wintour received the Human Rights Campaign's Ally for Equality Award for her support of gay rights. Last year, the fashion taste-maker also released a video, voicing her support of marriage equality.
Wintour visited the Comedy Central series to promote the Metropolitan Museum of Art's costume exhibit, "Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations," which celebrates fashion designers Elsa Schiaparelli and Miuccia Prada.
On Monday, celebrities like Beyonce, Gwyneth Paltrow and Scarlett Johansson attended the annual Met gala benefit (See photos of the arrivals). Wintour attended the event with her daughter, Bee Shaffer.
Colbert joked of the exhibit, "Well, I don't really trust Prada because my understanding is the devil wears Prada and this is a Christian nation, Madame!"
"That movie was so last year, We've gone way beyond that," Wintour quipped, referring to the 2006 movie, "The Devil Wears Prada," which showed Meryl Strep portraying the Editor in Chief of New York's biggest fashion magazine, a character based on Wintour.
The 62-year-old British-born editor-in-chief, who is known for her pageboy bob haircut and power to make or break a fashion designer's career, was the focus of the 2009 documentary, "The September Issue."
Wintour also insinuated that faux-conservative Colbert should step up his fashion game, telling the host, "Don't you think you could take a few more risks with the way you're dressing, Now that you're endorsing gay marriage, Tad will be a little disappointed in your look."
Colbert wrapped up the interview asking if she ever cuts loose and invited her to sport "a pair of zebra-striped sweatpants" and hit up a Long John Silver's with him. Wintour surprised everyone by answering, "Why not? It's a date!"
