Anna Kournikova signs on to 'The Biggest Loser' as new trainer
Anna Kournikova has signed on to join "The Biggest Loser" as a new personal trainer, filling the void left by Jillian Michaels who announced in December she was leaving the show.
The announcement was made during the show's season finale on Tuesday, May 24.
Kournikova's hiring is part of an effort to revamp the reality show. "The Biggest Loser" Executive Producer Todd Lubin tells Vulture that next season viewers will see the show "getting slightly away from just the tape measure, and getting into overall well being and health."
Kournikova put up her Miami Beach, Florida mansion for sale with an asking price of $9.4 million, earlier this month.
The ivy-covered home features seven bedrooms, eight bathrooms and is right on the waterfront. The home also has a coral rock pool deck, a two-story guest house and a sauna all within its 6,600 square feet. Photos of the home can be seen here.
The tennis star made an appearance on the show in October 2010 where she led a tennis work-out challenge. "The Biggest Loser" trainer Jillian Michaels announced she was leaving the show in December to focus on becoming a mother. Michaels recently said she was playing the 'waiting game' in her attempt to adopt a baby from the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Kournikova is best known for her tennis career which included two Grand Slam titles for doubles with partner Martina Hingis. Kournikova's professional career has slowed down as a result of injuries and back problems. She recently came in at No. 19 on Maxim's Hot 100 list.
The athlete is also known for her relationship with pop star Enrique Iglesias that began in 2001. During an interview with Graham Norton on BBC in 2010, she confirmed that the two are still dating but have no interest in getting married.
An NBC spokesperson confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that trainers Brett Hoebel and Cara Castronuova, who joined the show this season, will not return for next season.
