Anna Chlumsky of 'My Girl' dazzles at premiere for new HBO series (Poll)
Anna Chlumsky, who is best known for starring in "My Girl" looked all grown-up, wearing an elegant black gown at premiere for her new HBO series "Veep."
The 31-year-old actress stepped back into the spotlight on April 10 in a black column gown with a sweetheart neckline and plunging back. She accentuated the look with retro, side-swept waves.
"Veep," which is loosely based on the British series "The Thick Of It," stars Julia Louis-Dreyfus as former Senator Selina Meyer who becomes vice president of the United States but finds the job is entirely different than what she believed it to be.
The political satire, which is set to premiere on HBO on April 22, also features Chlumsky and "Arrested Development" star Tony Hale.
Louis-Dreyfus, an Emmy winner who received a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame in May (see video), played comedian Jerry Seinfeld's quirky friend Elaine on the hit sitcom "Seinfeld", which ran from 1990 to 1998. She recently portrayed divorced mom Christine Campbell on the CBS comedy series "The New Adventures of Old Christine", which began airing in 2006 and ended in May after five seasons.
Chlumsky has remained off-the-radar since her "My Girl" days, working at HarperCollins as a science fiction and fantasy editor. She said last year that she decided to return to acting after a random encounter with a psychic.
"When I graduated from college I thought I was over with show business and was pursuing other things... I thought when I got the really great nine-to-five [job], when it's the best in their world, then I'll be happy," Chlumsky told Slate. "There were a lot of signs leading up to my getting back into [the] business. I was crying on my lunch break, and a psychic was handing out her pamphlets, and she said, 'Excuse me I have a question.' And I was like, 'Yeah, yeah, get away from me.' But she followed me and poked me on the shoulder and said, 'Are you the girl from My Girl?'"
"I said, 'Yes,' to the psychic, and she was like, 'You still want to act,' and I was like, 'Oh God!'" Chlumsky continued. "I fell hook, line and sinker. I paid her like, $40 for 10 minutes of palm reading."
The actress starred opposite Macaulay Culkin in the 1991 film, "My Girl." She was 11-years-old when she portrayed the female lead, Vada Sultenfuss.
Since "My Girl," Chlumsky has appeared on series like "30 Rock," "Cupid," "Law & Order" and "White Collar."
Her film roles include "My Girl 2," "Trading Mom," "Gold Diggers: The Secret of Bear Mountain" and "The Good Guy." Chlumsky is also known for her supporting role in the movie "In the Loop," from Scottish writer/director Armando Iannucci, who is also responsible for "Veep."
