Anjelica Huston, known for her roles in films such as "The Addams Family," has reportedly been cast in NBC's musical pilot "Smash," which also stars "American Idol" alum Katharine McPhee.

An NBC spokesperson confirmed a report by Entertainment Weekly, which said Huston, 59, will play a "shrewd, dry, smart, cynical" New York City theatre producer.

The pilot is based off an idea by Steven Spielberg, who has been named as its executive producer. The drama tells of a group of people who work to develop a Broadway musical inspired by Marilyn Monroe. In addition to McPhee, who is set to play a singer and actress, "Will and Grace" star Debra Messing and Jack Davenport have also been cast on the show as a lyrcist and choreographer.

"Smash" is tentatively set to air later in the year, according to preliminary cast lists. Others named as cast members include Megan Hilty, Christian Borle and Raza Jaffrey.

Huston is also known for films such as "The Royal Tenenbaums" and "The Witches." She starred in the 2010 romantic comedy movie "When in Rome" and had a recurring part in the series "Medium" in 2008 and 2009. Huston also recently filmed the movie "50/50" a cancer comedy starring Seth Rogen and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Huston is also keeping busy by writing her memoir, which is set to be published in 2013. The book will detail her "problematic relationship" with her filmmaker father, John Huston, as well as her former relationship with on-again, off-again boyfriend and actor Jack Nicholson, according to a press statement from publisher Scribner books.

Huston and Nicholson dated for more than 15 years in the 1970s and 1980s and starred together in the 1981 film "The Postman Always Rings Twice."
