Angelina Jolie to direct more films?

01/09/2012 by OnTheRedCarpet.com Staff

Is Angelina Jolie ready to go behind the camera again?

The Oscar-winning actress now has one feature film directing credit under her belt, with the recent release of "In The Land of Blood and Honey," which depicts a romance between a Bosnian woman and Serbian man during the Bosnia war in the 1990s. The movie is nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film.

Jolie, who is known for her global humanitarian efforts as a UN Goodwill Ambassador, also wrote the film's screenplay and says she took on the project because she was personally interested in the subject matter.

When asked if she planned on directing more projects, the actress told OnTheRedCarpet.com host Chris Balish and other reporters at the 2012 Palm Springs International Film Festival on Saturday that she is open to the idea.

"I'm still so shy to even consider myself a writer-director," Jolie said. "But I think I'm so driven by something I care about it. So it'd have to be that - if something comes my way and I'd just feel so compelled to tell it, then I think I just might jump in, but I'm still shy."

"In The Land of Blood and Honey" is rated R and was released in the United States on December 23. It stars actors Zana Marjanovic and Goran Kostic. Jolie does not appear in the film.

She told OnTheRedCarpet.com last month that she remembers "looking at a blank piece of white paper" and penning its script, adding: "I've lived my whole career with somebody else's words and somebody else's image," the actress said. "This was the first time it was mine and so it was different."

At the Palm Springs International Film Festival, Jolie wore a greige, pleated Elie Saab jumpsuit from the designer's Spring-Summer 2011 collection and Jimmy Choo heels. Pitt wore a Versace suit and walked with a cane due to a knee injury.

The actor was given the Desert Palm Achievement Award for his performances in the films "Moneyball" and "The Tree of Life." Pitt is also nominated for a Golden Globe, for his leading acting role in the movie "Moneyball" (see a full list of nominations). The 2012 ceremony takes place on January 15.

"I saw how hard he worked and I know how much it means to him," Jolie said about Pitt.

The actress, who won an Oscar for her role as a mental patient in the 1999 movie "Girl, Interrupted," also said that she herself does not take Hollywood's "award season" "that seriously."

Other stars who were honored at the Palm Springs International Film festival included Gary Oldman, who was named "International Star of the Year," Michelle Williams, who starred in "My Week with Marilyn," Glenn Close of "Albert Nobbs" and Jessica Chastain and Octavia Spencer of "The Help." The actresses are also nominated for Golden Globes this year.

George Clooney, star of "The Descendants" and "The Ides of March," was given The Chairman's Award for acting, directing, producing and writing. He is nominated for three Golden Globes in three different categories for his film work last year. His "Descendants" co-star Shailene Woodley also received a nod. Fellow cast member Matthew Lillard did not. However, he is taking it in stride.

"I've been in pretty much every terrible movie ever made," the actor told OnTheRedCarpet.com at the Palm Springs International Film Festival. "So I'm just happy to be a part of something that's fantastic."

Lillard is known mostly for playing goofy characters. He has appeared in films such as "Scooby-Doo," "She's All That" and "Scream" and co-starred with Jolie and Johnny Lee Miller, her first husband, in the 1995 movie "Hackers."
