Angelina Jolie relates to tough 'Kung Fu Panda 2' role, says: 'I have a bit of a hard shell'
Angelina Jolie, known mostly for playing femme fatales, says she relates to her character, Tigress, in the animated film "Kung Fu Panda 2."
In the movie, which was released on Thursday, May 26, Jolie voices the part of a kung fu mistress who must help the panda Po, portrayed by Jack Black, protect the Valley of Peace. Dustin Hoffman voices Master Shifu, a red panda who trained Po. The sequel to the hit 2008 film depicts Po's journey to defeat a villain who wants to conquer China and destroy kung fu.
"I like her," Jolie said on her character in an interview with OnTheRedCarpet.com and other news outlets at the recent Los Angeles premiere of the film. "I think I have her weakness too - she's quite tough, but she doesn't really sometimes know how to be soft. So it's taken me a little while in my life and my kids have certainly helped with that, to get me a little softer. I have a bit of a hard shell sometimes."
Jolie and her partner Brad Pitt have six children together - three adopted children, Maddox, Pax and Zahara, and three biological children, Shiloh, Knox and Vivienne. The busy mom says that her kids are fans of the original movie and are very pragmatic about their viewing experience.
"They love the first one and they've all been growing up so I think," Jolie said. "The little ones don't quite understand and the older ones get it and think it's cool. There's a great scene in it where you suddenly catch up with the Furious Five and they're all tied up and what I appreciated was that my children said, 'How did they get you tied up, Mom?' And I said 'That is a very good question ... that would never happen!'"
The actress is currently working on two films, the romance "In the Land of Blood and Honey," which she wrote and directed and "Cleopatra," where she will portray the Egyptian queen, but Jolie said she would be more than happy to voice Tigress again if there were another sequel.
"I would love to do more, you come to work in your pajamas and bring your kids, you work with Jack Black and Gary Oldman, I mean there's just no easier job in the world."
"Kung Fu Panda 2," Jolie said, has "got more heart" than the original film, adding: "It's one of the films I've done that I'm most proud of, in terms of structure as a dramatic story. It's a great story."
At the film's Los Angeles premiere she appeared with Pitt and donned a short-sleeved, black Michael Kors gown with a slit that showed off her leg (see photos).
