Amy Winehouse's wedding dress stolen from home where she died
Amy Winehouse's wedding dress was recently stolen from her London home, where she died last year.
The late soul singer had worn it when she wed Blake Fielder-Civil in Miami, Florida in 2007. In addition, another newsprint cocktail dress she had donned on the BBC live music show "Later With Jools Holland" is also missing. No suspects have been named and a formal police complaint has not been filed.
According to a paparazzi photo posted by Vogue UK and Glamour, Winehouse wore to her wedding a short white and red floral printed frock with a retro halter neckline - a style she sported often at her concerts.
BBC News reported that Winehouse's home is currently "empty and ready to be sold but still has round the clock security." After her death, her father Mitch established the Amy Winehouse Foundation. The group has already auctioned off several of the singer's outfits to raise money for the organization, which helps disadvantaged and ill children, and the family had hoped to do the same with the stolen dresses.
A spokesperson for the foundation told BBC News that the group expected to receive bids as high as 100,000 pounds sterling ($161,410) for the wedding dress.
Both of her stolen dresses had already been catalogued and were taken from a cupboard in her house. The home was not broken into, a foundation rep told Reuters, adding: "It's got to be someone with access to the house."
"Thanks for all lovely messages about Amys dresses," Winehouse's father Tweeted on Thursday. "They would have helped lots of disadvant kids. Amy will figure out another way to help. (sic)"
Winehouse and Fielder-Civil had a turbulent, sometimes violent relationship and abused drugs and alcohol. They divorced in 2009. He was serving a prison sentence for burglary and possession of an imitation firearm when she died. In August, Fielder-Civil suffered an overdose and was put into a medically-induced coma and life support. He later recovered. According to the UK newspaper The Daily Mail, he and his new girlfriend are currently expecting their second child.
