Amy Winehouse's family calls fashion show tribute 'upsetting' (Photos)
Amy Winehouse was known for her unique and ever-changing fashion, and one designer aimed to recognize that.
Fashion designer Jean Paul Gaultier presented an Amy Winehouse-inspired fashion show at Paris Fashion Week, featuring the singer's popular styles and looks. Winehouse's father, Mitch, was none too pleased with how the show depicted his late daughter (See photos of the controversial fashion show here).
"The family was upset to see those pictures," Mitch Winehouse told The Sun of Gaultier's show. "We're still grieving for her loss, and we've had a difficult week with the six-month anniversary of Amy's death."
"It portrays a view of Amy when she was not at her best, and glamorizes some of the more upsetting times in her life," he added.
While the show depicted the "Rehab" singer's fashion and gravity-defying up-do's, it also featured her more tawdry looks and models smoking cigarettes. However, Gaultier stands by his show.
"She was an icon of fashion and truly, the sense of how she mixed the clothes - it was great," he said after Wednesday's show. "It is very joyous."
Kelly Osbourne, who called Winehouse's funeral "the saddest day of her life," was another observer who wasn't too pleased with the show.
"@eonline Although @JPGaultier was paying homage to my dear friend & icon to the world i found it to be lucratively selfish and distasteful!" Osbourne Tweeted on January 27, adding, "They had 3 men singing rehab & models walking in death vials, its barley [sic] been 6 months since her passing! Wrong."
Osbourne went on to say that while she did enjoy the look of the collection, she felt that the execution was distasteful.
The Grammy Award-winning Winehouse died at age 27 on July 23, 2011. Winehouse's funeral was held in late July 2011, and more than 100 people attended the service in north London. Mark Ronson, who produced Winehouse's Grammy-winning single "Rehab" and her 2006 album "Back To Black," was also among them.
In October 2011, it was discovered that Winehouse had died from accidental alcohol poisoning, according to a British coroner.
The Grammy-winner was found dead in her London apartment on July 23. Her blood alcohol level was five times the British drunk driving limit and three empty vodka bottles were found in her apartment at the time of her death, the BBC reported on Wednesday, October 26.
After the young songstress' death, her "Back to Black" album re-entered US charts and her newest album, "Lioness: Hidden Treasures," was released.
