Amy Winehouse and Tony Bennett music video debuts on the late singer's 28th birthday
One of Amy Winehouse's final music videos of her recording a duet with Tony Bennett was released on September 14, on what would have been the late singer's 28th birthday.
In the video, which was filmed just a few months before Winehouse's untimely death, the singer looks healthy and happy.
Bennett praised the "Rehab" singer, telling MTV that she was "someone who knows how to intuitively improvise and make it believable and sing with humanity and soul and honesty, no compromising ... Amy had that gift. She was the only one of all of the contemporary artists that I've met through the years ... She's the only one that was able to do it."
The troubled jazz and soul singer died at age 27 in July at her London home. The singer had battled addictions to drugs and alcohol for years, although the cause of her death has not yet been revealed.
"Amy was so excited to be working with Tony Bennett and really looking forward to her fans hearing this new recording," her father, Mitch Winehouse, said in a statement carried by BBC News. "The fact that Amy's voice is sounding as amazing and beautiful as ever and she is singing with the great Tony Bennett seems the most fitting tribute of all at this very difficult time."
Mitch Winehouse, a former London taxi driver who recently began to perform and record music himself, added that proceeds from the single, "Body and Soul," are to go to the new Amy Winehouse Foundation.
"The foundation is going to help thousands of people," he Tweeted on Wednesday, which was also Bennett's 85th birthday. "That is Amy's legacy."
He told BBC News that the charity group will aid "a range of causes close to Amy's heart," adding: "This could include help for children in trouble, suffering from health problems, children's hospices and more."
In January, Amy Winehouse began a music comeback following years of turmoil. That month, it was reported that Amy Winehouse and Bennett, a veteran crooner known for songs such as "The Way You Look Tonight," would record a duet.
BBC News said the two recorded "Body and Soul" at London's Abbey Road Studios in March. The song also is set to be featured on Bennett's upcoming album "Duets II," which is set for release on September 20 and also features collaborations with popular artists such as Lady Gaga, Queen Latifah, Josh Groban, Faith Hill, Mariah Carey, Carrie Underwood, John Mayer and Michael Buble.Sales of Winehouse's music have soared since her death. She is said to have left behind several unreleased tracks that could be put together for a posthumous album.
Though the official cause of Winehouse's death has not been announced, the singer's father Mitch Winehouse said he believes she died from a detox seizure.
