Amy Robach revealed during "Good Morning America" on Monday, Nov. 11, that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer, more than month after undergoing an on-air mammogram on the morning program.

The 40-year-old ABC news correspondent also said she will have a bilateral mastectomy and reconstructive surgery on Nov. 14. She will learn what her treatment will be following her surgery. Video from the segment can be seen below.

Robach said on the program she was initially reluctant to do the mammogram and she had been putting it off for a year.

"Good Morning America" anchor Robin Roberts, who is a breast cancer survivor and fought back from a serious blood and bone marrow disease, encouraged Robach to get the exam done.

Roberts said, according to Robach, "If one life is saved because of early detection, it's all worth it."

"It never occurred to me that life would be mine," Robach later said, recalling the story.

Shortly after her mammogram, Robach was asked to come in for more scans and underwent several tests before getting her diagnosis. Robach's husband, actor Andrew Shue, who had been away on business, and her parents flew in that night for support.

Robach, who is also the mother of two daughters and three stepsons, said, "Telling your children was the toughest part. I actually spoke with a counselor beforehand."

Robach also wrote about the experience on ABC News' website and said, "I can only hope my story will do the same and inspire every woman who hears it to get a mammogram, to take a self exam. No excuses. It is the difference between life and death."
