'American Pie' actors sign on for an 'American Reunion'
Seann William Scott, Jason Biggs and Eugene Levy have signed on to do another sequel in the "American Pie" franchise, entitled "American Reunion," according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Universal studios is also in negotiations with Tara Reid, Thomas Ian Nicholas, Chris Klein, Mena Suvari and Jennifer Coolidge to reprise their roles in the popular comedy franchise.
The script has already been written by Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg ("Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay"), who will also direct the film.
The first film, which came out in 1999 earned over $235 million in the worldwide box office. The second earned $287 million on a $30 million budget. The third movie in the series, "American Wedding" grossed over $231 million, with a $55 million budget. There have also been numerous straight-to-DVD spin-off movies which have been successful.
The Wrap has reported that the studio is also looking to bring back Shannen Elizabeth and Alyson Hannigan, who currently stars in the hit TV show, "How I Met Your Mother."
It was previously reported thatScott voluntarily entered a treatment facility on Tuesday, for undisclosed "health and personal issues."
Universals VP of production Peter Cramer and creative executive Kiska Higgs will be overseeing the project, which will be executive produced by the franchises's original writer Adam Herz and the first film's directors, Paul and Chris Weitz.
Tara Reid confirmed in February that she planned on joining the cast for "American Pie 4," which was its working title. The actress also said she would be working on "Big Lebowski 2," which the Coen brothers said was not happening, but that they would gladly watch.
This will be the franchise's first film to be released in theaters since 2003.
