'American Idol' contestant Jermaine Jones disqualified, report says

"American Idol" has reportedly lost another contestant, but this time it's not because of their musical abilities. Jermaine Jones, a 25-year-old from New Jersey who was dubbed the "Gentle Giant" singer on the hit reality talent-show "American Idol," last week made it into the top 13. He was recently disqualified from the show when it was discovered that he was concealing "multiple crimes," according to TMZ. On Tuesday, March 13, the contestant announced his departure in a message posted on his Twitter account, saying "Awww I will no longer b on the show." The Twitter account was deleted the same night. A FOX spokesperson declined comment. TMZ reported that Jones was charged with two crimes in 2011, one of which involved violence. The singer reportedly gave fake names to police at the time of the arrests, and has outstanding warrants which he also chose to keep concealed from the show's producers. The singer will depart from the hit show on Wednesday's episode in what The Hollywood Reporter calls a "dramatic fashion." Since Jones, who is still featured on the official "American Idol" website, competed long enough to make the top 13, he is considered an "official" semi-finalist. It is unclear if past eliminated contestants will be brought back. The 11th season of the FOX show premiered on January 19. The show has disqualified contestants before. Season 2 semi-finalist Frenchie Davis was kicked off the show after it was revealed she posed for topless photos. She was a contestant on the NBC singing contest show "The Voice," the biggest rival of "American Idol," last year. UPDATE: Jermaine Jones' dismissal from "American Idol" was confirmed on Wednesday's episode. Check out details here.
