Returning cast members Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson and Lily Rabe will join the second season of the hugely popular FX series, "American Horror Story," series co-creator Ryan Murphy announced at PaleyFest on Friday, March 2.

"We don't want to talk about it too much, we're still writing, anybody could pop up at any time," Murphy announced at the PaleyFest panel at the Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills, according to Deadline. "Everyone is playing the opposite of what they played before."

"American Horror Story" was created by "Glee" executive producers Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk. The first season followed Ben (Dylan McDermott), Vivien (Connie Britton) and their daughter Violet (Taissa Farmiga) who move from Boston to Los Angeles into a haunted house filled with secrets and ghostly creatures. Lange starred as their neighbor and previous occupant, while Peters portrayed her son Tate Langdon, Violet's love interest and a school shooter, whose ghost was trapped in the house.

Zachary Quinto guest starred on the series as Chad, the gay former owner of the haunted house and Rabe made several appearances as the ghost of the original occupant, both of whom were also trapped in the house. Paulson guest-starred as a medium named Billie Dean.

It was previously announced that Jessica Lange would return to the horror series as an entirely new lead character and Quinto will also return, reportedly as one of the male leads and Lange's nemesis.

Murphy previously revealed to Entertainment Weekly that the second season would take place in a new setting, in a "horror institution" on the East Coast.

Murphy said that there is a clue in the season one finale, titled "Birth," regarding where season two will take place. In the episode, Billie Dean told Violet that the house had a "paramagnetic grip," and has become sinister from the traumatic events that release psychic energy into the environment, which is then absorbed back into the house. She went on to say that the house used those trapped between worlds as conduits. She also mentioned that the phenomenon is common in "places like prisons or asylums," possibly alluding to the "horror institution" Murphy mentioned as the setting for season two.

Though the executive producers did not reveal any plot details for season two, Falchuk promised that the show would continue to be an anthology, introducing "a new group of people to [expletive] with" each season.

It was announced on October 31 that "American Horror Story" had been renewed for a second season.

Murphy revealed on March 1 that the second season would concentrate on Lange's new character, which will be different from her Emmy-winning portrayal of the delightfully wicked Constance Langdon.

"This will really be the Jessica Lange show so I'm very excited about it," Murphy told E! News. "We are designing this amazing new opposite of the Constance character for her. She and I have spoken about different things. She has a lot of ideas, and has a lot of input into her character. She told me some things she has always wanted to play as an actress. She's a great collaborator and a great friend."

Season two of "American Horror Story" is expected to return to FX in October 2012.
