'American Horror Story' renewed for a third season, Jessica Lange set to return
"American Horror Story" has been renewed for a third season and star Jessica Lange will return to the show for another season.
FX announced the news on Thursday, November 15. The show has been picked up for another set of 13 episodes. The second season, titled "American Horror Story: Asylum," is currently airing and features Jessica Lange as a nun named Sister Jude in charge of an asylum for the criminally insane on the East Coast during 1964.
Co-Creators / Executive Producers Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, who also work together on "Glee," have not announced the plot or title of the third season.
Each season of the show features a new location, theme and setting that has no relation to previous seasons. Although the show utilizes actors from the past season, the actors play completely different characters, which will likely be the case for Lange in the show's third season.
"With 'American Horror Story: Asylum,' Ryan and Brad have raised the bar in every way from 'Murder House,' the first American Horror Story miniseries," John Landgraf, President and General Manager of FX Networks, said in a statement. "And their original idea - the notion of doing an anthological series of miniseries with a repertory cast - has proven groundbreaking, wildly successful and will prove to be trendsetting. We can't wait to see what deviously brilliant ideas they come up with for their third miniseries."
Lange won Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild and Emmy awards for her role as Constance Langdon during the show's first season.
"The 'American Horror Story' anthology is a labor of love for all of us and we could not be prouder of the work our brilliant company of actors and everyone on the production team is doing this year," Murphy said. "To John and our friends at FX and Dana Walden and Gary Newman at 20th, we thank you for your vote of confidence -- and to our loyal audience, keep watching!"
The season 2 finale of "American Horror Story: Asylum" is set to air on January 23 at 10 p.m. on FX.
