Amber Riley collapses on red carpet at 'Glee' event, addresses pregnancy rumor
Amber Riley, who plays Mercedes on "Glee," says she is "fine" after collapsing on the red carpet at a recent screening and Q&A for the FOX musical comedy series.
The 27-year-old actress took to her Twitter page to explain the incident at the event, which took place on Tuesday, May 1, at the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in Los Angeles. She did end up participating at the panel presentation inside.
"Hey guys, I'm okay :)," she Tweeted. "I got a little dizzy from all the photog flashes! You'd think I's be used to it by now, still a red carpet amateur I guess. Gonna get checked out but I feel fine. Thank you for all the concern and well wishes. (sic)"
"I'd also like to thank the photographers for being do professional and not taking photos of me on the ground," she added. "I truly truly appreciate it. Could have been super embarrassing."
Riley also took the opportunity to "stop the rumor mill" with regard to what else may have spurred the incident, before any theories surfaced online.
"I'm not pregnant!" she Tweeted. "Yes I'm black but I don't have diabetes, I don't starve myself to fit clothes; I buy clothes to fit ME not vice versa, I DO NOT DIET; I eat right and exercise! I love myself waaaay more than I like my career. I would never ever put myself in harm's way to mirror any 'image.' Come on ppl. Get a life. I did get a great laugh this morning reading all the BS though lol.
The actress told People magazine in February that she had changed her eating and workout habits in July 2011 and dropped two dress sizes. Her "Glee" character has struggled with her body image and battled what appeared to be a short-lived eating disorder in early episodes.
"I decided I was going to make a change and eat healthier," she told the magazine, adding that she cut out fast food and burgers. "I've always been comfortable with my size. I just decided it was time to get healthy."
The season 3 finale of "Glee" is set to air on May 22. The show has been renewed for season 4.
