Amanda Seyfried rose to fame as a ditzy blonde on "Mean Girls" and the 25-year-old actress, who stars in the new thriller "Red Riding Hood," says she loves "dark, dirty jokes" in real life. "Red Riding Hood" is based on the fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm and is set for release on Friday, March 11. Seyfried plays Valerie, a young girl who lives in a medieval village that is haunted by a werewolf, who can take on a human form. Seyfried told OnTheRedCarpet.com and other news outlets at the recent Los Angeles premiere of "Red Riding Hood" that the original story "scared the crap" out of her. However, she also said: "I try not to take life too seriously, especially on movie sets when you're dealing with a lot of drama and fear and whatever. I try to make everything as light as possible. I love jokes. Dark, dirty jokes. It's just my passion." In "Red Riding Hood," Seyfried's character falls in love with an orphaned woodcutter, played by Shiloh Fernandez, and wants to run away with him to avoid an arranged marriage. However, the plan is stalled when her older sister turns up dead and Valerie discovers she has a unique connection to the werewolf. "Red Riding Hood" is co-produced by actor Leonardo DiCaprio and directed by Catherine Hardwicke, who helmed the first "Twilight" film. The movie also stars Virginia Madsen, Billy Burke and Gary Oldman. Seyfried began her on-screen career around 2000, starring in the soap operas "As the World Turns" and "All My Children." Her breakout role came in the form of Karen, a ditzy high school clique member with a heart of gold, in the teen comedy movie "Mean Girls," which starred Lindsay Lohan. Seyfried later went on to star in television shows such as "Veronica Mars" and "Big Love" and appeared in the movies "Mamma Mia!" and "Letters to Juliet." She recently shot the science fiction film "Now" with Justin Timberlake and Olivia Wilde. The movie hits theaters in October.
